Music is deeply impactful for me. It helps me navigate through time. It helps me explore parts of myself that I may not have accessed otherwise. It helps me process life! And it’s been a true friend to celebrate with, getting pumped up with, cry and remember with. Writing music, singing and playing the piano has been all of that for me… and so much more. I showed great interest in music as a young girl, making up songs and wanting to learn the piano at my best friend’s place. My parents saw how much it meant to me and gave me a keyboard for Christmas. Years later, we moved to Vancouver Island and our new home came with a piano from the previous owners! My appreciation for classical music developed as I began piano lessons, and it expanded to blues and rock with the influence of my father’s favourites Joe Cocker, Ray Charles, Tom Petty and Santana to name a few. In high school I took part in the school band, open mikes and talent shows throughout Vancouver Island, B.C.
I began learning the piano in 1990. I wrote my first “official” song at the age of ten and enjoyed the newfound hobby that was my driving passion for playing the piano. After studying the piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music during my elementary and high school years, I attended Capilano University, where I studied under well-accomplished local composer Mark Armanini and sung as a soprano in Capilano Singer’s Choir with director Lars Kaario. During my time at Cap College, I wrote for several documentaries and commercials within the media department, one of which is now well known as BKS Crew Productions. I continued my studies at the University of British Columbia and trained with internationally known opera singer Heather Thompson and enjoyed studying film music with famous flute, saxophone player and film composer Tom Keenlyside. In 2005, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Music with a major in Voice. I continued writing and occasionally collaborating with other artists. In 2007, I auditioned and went through to the third celebrity panel of Canadian Idol. That was an interesting experience!
Since 2010 I had been studying as a voice student and in 2011 became a Speech Level Singing Instructor. In 2013 I became Certified Vocal Instructor Level 2 through Institute for Vocal Advancement. 2010 was a turning point, a new beginning, as I started several different trainings that collaborate together. That has brought me here today with a very unique skill set and knowledge base to offer in today's music industry and art in general. In 2010 I was fortunate to be referred by a good friend, actor William Taylor to go see Master Voice instructor Spencer Welch to further develop my voice. At that time, I had just begun voice-over work as well as frequent late night singing, so it was perfect timing! Since 2010 I have been studying as a voice student and a certified IVA voice instructor under the Institute for Vocal Advancement and now a Level 2 IVA instructor. In addition to this training, I had been working on my inner self through the healing arts and spirituality.
Also in 2010, I began doing the voice-overs for the internationally known Journey’s Inward Hypnotherapy. To this day, I have produced over one hundred soundtracks available online, everything from smoking cessation to our top seller, hypno-birthing! In 2010, I founded Asheida Voice & Music, offering voice and piano instructions, original music and voice over work. I have been writing and recording at my home studio in Vancouver, B.C. I am available to perform at various functions and my original music is available for licensing for multimedia such as film, television, websites, documentaries, commercials and more. My personal composition and song style ranges from soft contemporary pop infused with classical and jazz elements to electronic commercial-style jingles. My melodic riffs dance among dualities. My voice, although operatically trained, has a natural sultry and ambient quality to jazz. Some common themes in my music are personal growth, evolution, new paradigm and politics, change, freedom, nature, love, and time. Like many, I have had the experience that music is an invaluable inspiring gift in my life. I want to offer that possibility to others with the unique skills and gifts I have to share. I’m also very excited to have launched my first children’s book titled Peach and Pun: The New Family Ferret. Now available through Amazon and various retailers. Stay tuned for the audio book!
